Moving House
Soon I’ll be moving house, and not just a change of walls but also a change of place. I’m finally leaving Lancaster. Well I say finally, there are a lot of people who have stayed longer than I and still not left, but I think 8 years is good enough for me.  I’ve been trying to work out what I think about leaving, what I’ll miss and what I’m looking forward to leaving...

MRI Scan
After quite a long wait my MRI appointment finally came, scheduled for 7.45am on Saturday at the RLI. If I’d read the letter better in advance I might have questioned the time since the MRI department doesn’t actually open until 8am and sure enough it involved standing around in a corridor for a while until there was actually someone to let me in.  I was only having my knee scanned,...

How To: Fix “Unknown keyword in configuration... →
Decided to reinstall my Acer Revo which involves booting from a USB drive as the machine doesn’t have a CD ROM. I was thwarted by an “Unknown keyword in configuration file” error on boot, and this lovely site explained how to fix the problem.  Credit where credit’s due, but I’ll also repeat the solution as replicating useful information on the Internet is always a...

Catch Up
I haven’t posted here in a bit, and a lot of stuff happened. I sort of intended to write at length about each thing, but I lack the resolve and that’s stopping me from writing anything. So in order to get back in the swing of things I thought I’d post a catch up entry. I don’t really know who I’m telling these things; really I think it is more for myself than anyone...

Lotus F1 Factory Tour
For Christmas Andy bought me a ticket (and himself obviously) to tour the Team Lotus Formula 1 Factory in Norwich. We chose to attend the final day of tours before the season kicks in, and that happened to be last Friday. Hard to believe the F1 season has come around again so soon, well testing at least, but even so. Barely seems like any time has passed since the final race of 2011. Anyway, the...

Secret Santa & Present
I mentioned taking part in the Reddit secret santa this year in an earlier post, and it’s taken a while but I have some updates on the subject. Firstly, I received the present intended for me from a very nice gentleman in Canada. He had tried to purchase something inside the UK and have the company amend the postal details so that it would be addressed to me. Unfortunately he was unable to...

Secret Santa
I decided to join in with the Reddit Secret Santa this year, and I think it’s really made me feel Christmassy, more so than I thought it would. I spent this morning wandering around town searching for gifts having done some Internet research to find out as much as I could about my giftee, and it just made me feel happy.  It probably helped that the temperature outside is about -3, there was...

Japanese - Week 2->4
I said I’d post more about learning Japanese and it’s been ages since I talked about week 1. It’s progressed quite well and I’m starting to feel like there’s too much to try to keep in my head! We’ve covered quite a bit; asking what things are called, telling people what things are called, asking where things are, what time things open and close, asking the...

Japanese - Week 1
I didn’t know what to expect of a language evening class. The only thing I had to base my opinion of learning languages on was from school where the overbearing feeling is embarrassment - you have to say things in a silly accent infront of your peers, if you get it wrong you sound stupid, if you get it right you sound like a swot.  As it turned out it started off embarrassing, or rather I...

Weekend
I had a nice weekend. There’s a lot of assorted stress in my head at the moment but it was just good to have a nice weekend. Andy took me to see 1984 at the Dukes and it was fun, I’d not been to the theatre in quite a while and 1984 is one of my favourite books. I didn’t agree with some of the emphasis they placed, but I think I’ve always read 1984 in a particular way so...

Sky Broadband - ADSL Migration
So far I’ve been incredibly impressed by Sky - I made the leap from Plusnet to Sky TV + the Unlimited broadband package last week, and today was the migration date from my previous ISP. I was a little bit worried as I logged into the Sky website and it told me my Broadband order had been cancelled. I wasn’t completely freaked out simply because I’d already been sent the Sky...

Sindragosa Silenced! Beware Arthas...
Finally we downed Sindragosa!! I thought it was never going to happen, but for some reason the stars aligned this evening and with very little effort she was dead. I’m so glad I don’t have to listen to her dreadful voice acting any more.  Now we’re onto the Lich King, seems like a complex encounter but not as terrible as Yogg when we first got there. Looking forward to my...

Stieg Larsson - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Next up was a book which seems to be the “cool” thing to be reading at the moment, give or take a year - I’m a bit late to the party. I’d been recommended this book by a wide variety of people, and it appeared to fall into my broad interests as a crime/murder mystery so it wasn’t really difficult choosing it as the second book to read. I really liked it. It was hard...

James Patterson - 1st to Die
It’s taken me a weekend to finish this in fits and starts, I was caught between intrigue and wishing it would just hurry up and get to the point in equal measures. I don’t know whether if I’d read it in one sitting rather than in (sometimes as short as 15 minutes) bursts, but the twists in the last quarter of the book left me more confused than convinced. Particularly the very...

(Re)starting Reading
I haven’t read a lot in a long time. I used to read all the time as a child, never without a book and often reading multiple books at once stacked up my bedside table. When I came away to university I stopped having “free time” that wasn’t able to be filled with a billion other things and I just got out of the habit.  For a few reasons, most notably the increased...

Green Day
Went to see Green Day in Manchester with Heather, and it was amazing. I’d forgotten I’d agreed to go so when she reminded me we had tickets it was as if I’d won them in a competition or something. I’d never been to a gig at Old Trafford before, but the fact its so open (being a cricket ground) meant it felt like being at some kind of festival. The support acts were good...

Iron Man 2
Just been to see Iron Man 2 at the cinema and I have to say I really enjoyed it! I went into it not knowing what to expect since I’d not seen (nor read anything about) the first one. Thankfully the backstory wasn’t especially… complex, and it didn’t take long before I was up to speed. Any film which contains fighting, flying robots, a drunken robot birthday brawl to the...

Finally fixed my bug!!! It’s been pestering me for days, and when I finally work out what’s wrong the solution is to simply replace a ! with a =. Sometimes I hate coding a lot.  On the bright side though, fixed! I can finally move on to making things awesome instead of just making things work.

Today's Theme
The theme generator has spoken, and it say “Upside Down”. Not really sure what to do with that… guess I’ll have to give it some thought.
